Began playing golf at the age of four. Played soccer, baseball and golf growing up, but chose golf because he wasn't fast enough for soccer and couldn't hit in baseball.

Coast Guard certified captain.

Brother, Ben, is in the United States Coast Guard.

Favorite golf courses are Wade Hampton, Pebble Beach and Secession Golf Club.

Played four seasons at University of South Carolina (2004-08), earning All-America Third Team recognition in 2005, All-Southeastern Conference First Team selections in 2005 and 2008, in addition to being named the 2004-05 SEC Freshman of the Year.

Notched one individual victory at South Carolina, which came as a freshman in spring 2005; he also fell in a playoff for medalist honors at the 2005 Southern Highlands Collegiate as a freshman.

Earned six varsity letters at Beaufort Academy, wining back-to-back individual South Carolina state titles in 2003 and 2004; he also won the 2003 South Carolina Junior Amateur.
