Began his collegiate career at Berry College (2005-06 season), an NAIA program in Mount Berry, Georgia which eventually transitioned to NCAA Division III, transferred to Georgia Military College for the 2006-07 season, and played three seasons at Clayton State University (2007-10), an NCAA Division II program in Morrow, Georgia.

Earned individual medalist honors at three events while at Clayton State, the second-most career wins in program history, only trailing Will Wilcox's eight wins.
