The first week of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2021 witnessed some high-octane matches as Karachi Kings, Lahore Qalandars and Islamabad United secured victories in their respective opening fixtures.

On the other hand, Quetta Gladiators, Peshawar Zalmi and Multan Sultans failed to open their account in the sixth edition of PSL.

The second round of matches will kick off with Lahore Qalandars taking on Quetta Gladiators at the National Stadium in Karachi on Monday.

Here are some key statistics that will help you ace matchweek two of PSL 2021.

Lahore Qalandars vs Quetta Gladiators

PSL 2020 runners-up Lahore Qalandars commenced their new campaign in an emphatic fashion as they defeated Peshawar Zalmi by four wickets on Sunday. On the contrary, Safaraz Ahmed-led Quetta Gladiators were thrashed by Karachi Kings as they lost by seven wickets in their first match of the season on Saturday.

In the Lahore Qalandars vs Quetta Gladiators head-to-head records, both the teams have won five games each in their 10 encounters. However, Lahore are currently on a three-match winning streak against Quetta in the PSL.

Furthermore, Sohail Akhtar-led Qalandars have won four of their last five completed PSL matches. On the other hand, Gladiators have registered just one win in their last five matches in the league.

Batting first, Lahore have an average score of 171 runs in their last five PSL matches, while Quetta have posted an average of 147 runs in the same number of matches.

Lahore Qalandars are tipped to beat the Quetta Gladiators on Monday.

Peshawar Zalmi vs Multan Sultans

Peshawar Zalmi and Multan Sultans suffered defeat in their first match of the tournament. While Wahad Riaz-led Peshawar lost to Lahore, Mohammad Rizwan’s Multan succumbed to a three-wicket defeat against Islamabad on Sunday.

Both the teams will look to open their account when they lock horns in the fifth match of the PSL 2021 on Tuesday. The Peshawar Zalmi vs Multan Sultans head-to-head stat favours the latter as Multan have won four of the six encounters.

However, both Zalmi and Sultans have struggled in the league recently, recording just one win in their last five PSL matches.

Speaking of the venue, the last five games at the National Stadium has seen an average of 26.2 boundaries and 8.8 sixes. On one hand, Peshawar have an average score of 154 runs while batting first in their last five PSL matches, Multan have posted an average of 166 runs in the same number of matches.

Interestingly, Sultans have won their only game against Zalmi at the National Stadium in Karachi.

Multan Sultans will definitely start as the odd-on favourites against Peshawar Zalmi due to their superior head-to-head record.

Karachi Kings vs Islamabad United

PSL 2020 champions Karachi Kings will take on two-time winners Islamabad United in the sixth match of the ongoing edition of the league.

Both Karachi and Islamabad registered convincing wins in their first match of PSL 2021.

The two teams have faced each other 14 times in the league with Islamabad having a slight advantage with eight wins to their name while losing six.

However, Imad Wasim-led Kings have won four of their last five matches in the league while Shadab Khan?/strong>s United have secured just two wins in their last five PSL matches.

Islamabad and Karachi have won one game each against each other at the National Stadium. Karachi Kings are tipped to continue their winning momentum in the league due to their recent form.

Teenage cricketing sensations Haider Ali and Naseem Shah have been picked for Pakistan's tour of England next month, continuing the country's tradition of throwing young players in at the deep end.

Pakistan's 29-member squad will begin the tour with at least a month of training in a 'bio-secure' environment, before the series of three Tests and three Twenty20 internationals gets cracking on August 5.

Seventeen-year-old pacer Shah will be a star attraction, having become the youngest bowler ever to take a Test hat-trick in February after only debuting in Australia last year.

Haider's inclusion, at the age of 19, will also spark excitement after he scored 107 runs in the Under-19 World Cup this year, followed by 218 runs in the Emerging Teams Cup in Bangladesh.

He also tallied 645 runs -- including a century in the final -- in Pakistan's premier domestic tournament Quaid-e-Azam Trophy last year.

Chief selector and head coach Misbah-ul-Haq said the selection of the unusually large team was difficult.

"The selectors have picked a squad which gives us the best chance of success in England. It was a challenging process as the players have not played for an extended period of time," said Misbah.

Middle-order batsman Haris Sohail was the only player who pulled out of the tour due to virus fears, while fast bowler Mohammad Amir -- sentenced in a spot-fixing case in UK in 2010 -- withdrew to attend the birth of his second child in August.

Amir was part of Pakistan's tours in 2016 and 2018 after completing his five-year ban for spot-fixing.

Middle-order batsman Fawad Alam, a prolific scorer in domestic events but who has not been given a chance in a Test team since 2009, made the squad.

Wicket-keeper Sarfaraz Ahmed, sacked as captain and excluded from all three formats last year in a surprise move, will also tour England and has a chance to play in the Twenty20 series.

Fast bowler Sohail Khan was recalled after playing his latest Test in December 2016.

Spinners Bilal Asif and Mohammad Nawaz, opener Imran Butt, fast bowler Musa Khan are named as reserves in case any of the players fail pre-tour virus testing, which will be carried out on 20 and 25 June, said Misbah.

Pakistan will play Tests in Manchester (August 5-9) and Southampton (August 13-17 and 21-25).

The three Twenty20 internationals will all be played in Southampton on August 28, 30 and September 1.

Pakistan’s skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed was sacked last week from his post to be replaced by Azhar Ali and Babar Azam in Tests and T20Is respectively. Even his ODI post appears to be in doubt with the Pakistan Cricket board stating that they would make a decision on that later.

It is a major blow for Pakistan’s wicket-keeper batsman who led them to a Champions Trophy triumph in 2017. PCB’s surprising decision came a series after Misbah ul Haq was made the head coach. If indeed the sacking had to come, it probably should have happened before the Sri Lankan series itself.

But has Pakistan really done poorly under Sarfaraz for him to be sacked? Under him, Pakistan became the top T20I nation in the world since the last World T20, with one of the best win percentages until their 0-3 loss to Sri Lanka. Ignoring that record and calling out one series against the Sri Lankan side is poor from the Pakistan Cricket Board.

Consider all formats and all captains and Sarfaraz’s win-loss ration as a skipper is second only to Saleem Malik in Pakistan’s cricket history.

In 100 matches across formats, Sarfaraz led Pakistan to 61 wins while losing just 36 matches. Even greats like Mushtaq Mohammad and Imran Khan had far worse records as captain. In fact, Misbah ul Haq himself had a very poor reign as skipper, losing 60 matches and winning just 77. The win-loss ratio under Sarfaraz is 1.694, second only to Malik’s 2.

Several former greats have come out in support of Sarfaraz Ahmed after his sacking.

Mohsin Khan: “He (Sarfaraz) took Pakistan to number one in T20 cricket and he is a fighter. This is a decision taken in haste and it could also affect the career of Babar.?/em>

Rashid Latif: “Sarfaraz is not a selfish captain and sacrificed his position many times for the team. He did not deserve this treatment.?/em>

Moin Khan: “He (Sarfaraz) has shown himself to be a fine captain and yes, he was struggling a bit for form, but when a senior player is under pressure you have to encourage and back him, not dump him like this.?/em>

His batting credentials also cannot be questioned too much. In Tests since 2016, Sarfaraz has 11 half-centuries, the most alongside Babar Azam and Azhar Ali. While he does not have a hundred, the wicket-keeper’s batting position justifies his handy fifties and an average over 30.

All in all, the keeper was perhaps given a raw deal in yet another fickle call by the PCB.

Pakistan dropped former skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed from the country's Twenty20 and Test squads for their upcoming Australian tour Monday, while experienced players Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Hafeez were also given the axe in the shorter format.

Sarfraz, 32, was stripped last week of his Twenty20 international and Test captaincy, just days after Pakistan were routed 3-0 by Sri Lanka at home in the short format.

His place in both squads was taken by 27-year-old Mohammad Rizwan, whose only Test was in New Zealand in 2016.

The exit from Twenty20 internationals means curtains for Malik who had already announced retirement from Tests and one-day internationals.

Hafeez was part of Pakistan's Twenty20 squad in South Africa earlier this year but was not played. At 39, he has little hope of competing in international cricket again.

Pakistan will play three Twenty20 internationals in Sydney (November 3), Canberra (November 5) and Perth (November 8).

The two Tests will be in Brisbane (Nov 21-25) and Adelaide (Nov 29-Dec 03).

Head coach and chief selector Misbah-ul-Haq said Pakistan need to do well in Australia following a disappointing summer.

"We need to play aggressive cricket to achieve better results there," said Misbah. "We have some exciting youngsters in the pace squad who could be surprise packages."

The Test pace attack -- hampered by the untimely retirement of Mohammad Amir and Wahab Riaz earlier this year -- includes 16-year-old Nasim Shah and 19-year-old Musa Khan who have played just five and seven first-class matches respectively.

Imran Khan senior, 32, returns to the Test squad after playing his last Test during the Australian tour in 2017.

Prolific leg-spinner Yasir Shah will be assisted by 33-year-old left-arm spinner Kashif Bhatti in Tests.

And leg-spinner Usman Qadir -- son of the late legendary leggie Abdul Qadir -- will be part of the Twenty20 squad, with Misbah citing his experience playing in Australia's Big Bash Twenty20 league earlier this year.

The lanky 37-year-old Mohammad Irfan, who played the last of his 20 Twenty20 internationals in the Twenty20 World Cup in India three years ago, is also part of the shorter format.

Squads:

Twenty20: Babar Azam (captain), Asif Ali, Fakhar Zaman, Haris Sohail, Iftikhar Ahmed, Imad Wasim, Imam-ul-Haq, Khusdil Shah, Mohammad Amir, Mohammad Hasnain, Mohammad Irfan, Mohammad Rizwan (wicketkeeper), Musa Khan, Wahab Riaz, Shadab Khan, Usman Qadir

Test: Azhar Ali (captain), Abid Ali, Asad Shafiq, Babar Azam, Haris Sohail, Imam-ul-Haq, Imran Khan senior, Iftikhar Ahmed, Kashid Bhatti, Mohammad Abbas, Mohammad Rizwan (wicketkeeper), Nusa Khan, Naseem Shah, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Shan Masood, Yasir Shah

Pakistan sacked Sarfaraz Ahmed from his post as Twenty20 and Test skipper on Friday, a week after he led the side to a shocking 3-0 home defeat against an inexperienced Sri Lanka.

The showdown in Lahore gave the visitors their first Twenty20 series win against Pakistan in seven attempts while missing 10 of their top players -- including regular T20 skipper Lasith Malinga, who refused to tour Pakistan over security fears.

Senior batsman Azhar Ali will replace Sarfaraz as Test skipper, while Babar Azam will lead the Twenty20 side, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said.

"Sarfaraz has been replaced... on poor performance," said a board press release.

Azam has been appointed skipper until next year's Twenty20 World Cup in Australia, while Azhar will remain in charge for the 2019-2020 season.

Squads for the tour will be announced on October 21.

The change is seen as surprising despite the Sri Lanka whitewash. Pakistan had reached number one in the Twenty20 rankings under Sarfaraz, winning 11 series along the way.

Sarfaraz also topped the batting chart with 67 runs across the series. He congratulated both new captains on the honour.

"I wish Azhar and Azam the best of luck and thank all the coaches, selectors and officials for helping me in the journey," he is quoted as saying in the release.

Azhar previously skippered Pakistan in one Test and 31 one-day internationals between 2015 and 2017, losing 18 and winning 21 with one no result.

"It's an honour to lead my country," said Azhar, who was himself sacked after losing 4-1 against Australia in a one-day series in 2017.

Pakistan will next play three Twenty20 internationals in Australia in November ahead of two Test matches.

Karachi hosts an ODI for the first time in 10 years when Pakistan take on a depleted Sri Lanka on Friday, furthering the country's revival in international cricket.

"History will be made on Friday when Karachi will host the first ODI," said Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed.

"We must thank the Sri Lankan team for touring us."

Teams have been reluctant to visit the cricket-mad country since a militant attack on the Sri Lankan team bus in Lahore in 2009.

Although no players were killed in the attack, several were injured, and eight people died.

The attack forced Pakistan to play all their "home" Tests and most of their short-form games in the United Arab Emirates with Zimbabwe becoming the first team to return to Pakistan in 2015.

That tour was followed by a T20I series by a World XI in 2017, a one-off T20I match against Sri Lanka that same year, and the West Indies for a T20I series in Karachi in 2018.

The current tour -- comprising of three ODIs and as many T20Is -- was tainted by the withdrawal of 10 Sri Lankan players who cited security fears.

Sri Lanka then stalled the tour after receiving information of a possible militant attack on the team, before the all clear was finally given last week.

High security

Pakistan have put in place stringent security measures normally reserved for heads of state.

All the arrangements are being led by the country's military, with around 2,000 security personnel on alert at the team's hotel and at the ground.

Sri Lankan skipper Lahiru Thirimanne -- captaining the side after regular skipper Dimuth Karunaratne pulled out -- is confident cricket will be in focus.

"The security has been really first class," said Thirimanne on Thursday. "We didn't have any problems. The facilities here are really good. Actually, we are not allowed to go out from the hotel, so we did some get together and played some FIFA games and carrom."

Thirimanne, the most experienced player in the squad with 125 ODIs, accepted the series would be difficult without so many key men.

"It's a good challenge because 10 of our senior players are not here. First of all, we must respect their decision because it's not about personal decision, you have to talk about with your families when you take this kind of decision.

"Regarding the challenge we are getting here, it's a very good side, I must say that Pakistan has named their best side so, yeah, the thing is we'll have lot of youngsters so it's good opportunity for them to come up and showcase their talent."

Sarfaraz and fast bowler Wahab Riaz are the only Pakistani players who have played an ODI in Karachi before -- back in 2008.

"I can't wait for Friday," said Sarfaraz, who took over as ODI captain in 2017.

The remaining ODIs will also be in Karachi on Sunday and Wednesday.

The two teams will also play three T20Is -- all in Lahore -- on October 5, 7 and 9.

At one end of the spectrum is Misbah-ul-Haq, a hard taskmaster and the pioneer of the push-up celebration after a hundred. At the other is Sarfaraz Ahmed, who was caught yawning by the cameras during the exhilarating India vs Pakistan World Cup encounter.

As Misbah-ul-Haq assumes the role of the national selector and head coach, Sarfaraz's role remains unperturbed so far with him being named captain for the series against Sri Lanka. But there are a few changes coming in Pakistan cricket through Misbah's appointment.

A proper regime

Pakistan players' fitness levels were under the scanner during the World Cup and the new head coach has come down hard on this by introducing a proper fitness routine. Misbah has asked for a change in diet plans of players and not just in the national camp but also in domestic tournaments. Being someone who understands Pakistan cricket quite well, Misbah's vision is to bring fitter players through the grassroot levels to Pakistan cricket. Biriyani, red meat and sweets remain outside the diet plan as Misbah looks to set a precedent on how to run the mess called Pakistan cricket.

Misbah has ordered that the food consumed should include only barbecue items and pasta in addition to fruits through the domestic season and in the national camp.

Fringe talent and pre-series camps

There were 20 players named in a probable squad for the series against Sri Lanka with these players set to take part in a training camp at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore. In another routine expected to bring order to chaos in Pakistan cricket, the camps will focus on the upbringing of fringe talent and also in identifying the players closest to national selection.

The series against Sri Lanka has been marred in controversy after the Island Nation struggled to put together a strong enough squad due to security concerns. But Misbah has remained true to his nature, working on his men rather than worrying about the opponents.

The return of Akmal and Shehzad

In the camp named for the Sri Lankan series, there are a couple of notable additions in Ahmed Shehzad and Umar Akmal. Both are extraordinary players with enough talent, but that hasn't translated to consistent runs in international cricket.

Misbah has sought to bring them back, perhaps in an effort to identify clear cut goals and roles for them and to oversee how they go on receiving another chance.

All's not about return alone either with Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik left out of the camp with them given an allowance to complete the NOC to play in the Caribbean Premier League.

Quite a few fringe players have also been named as Pakistan look to blend youth and experience and form a success recipe with Misbah eyeing their chemistry. There could be a few more changes further down the lane, but for now, the former skipper has pushed for consistency and discipline, often the factors missing in Pakistan cricket.

Pakistan, on Friday, retained Sarfaraz Ahmed as their captain for the upcoming limited-overs series against Sri Lanka, despite a clean-up after a poor 2019 World Cup that saw the exit of head coach Mickey Arthur.

The South Asian side failed to reach the semi-finals of the World Cup this year, forcing the cricket board to not renew Arthur's contract and also show the door to bowling coach Azhar Mahmood, batting coach Grant Flower and trainer Grant Luden.

There was speculation that the captaincy could be taken away from Ahmed, but the Pakistan Cricket Board announced at a press conference that he will lead the side in the one-day and Twenty20 series against Sri Lanka, later this month.

Read: Pakistan appoint Misbah-ul-Haq as head coach and chief selector

PCB chairman Ehsan Mani added that Babar Azam has been appointed vice-captain in a bid to groom him for future leadership roles.

Ahmed, 34, led Pakistan to victory in the Champions Trophy two years ago, but they have since lost 24 of their 47 ODIs, winning 20 with three no-results.

The 24-year-old Babar, meanwhile, has been Pakistan's best batsman in limited-overs cricket recently.

Mani also stressed that the Sri Lankan team is still set to tour Pakistan, after saying earlier this week that the Sri Lankan board is looking for security assurances from their government.

"We are confident that the series will be held in Pakistan," Mani said.

The ODIs will be played in Karachi on September 27, 29 and October 3, while the three T20s are scheduled for Lahore on October 5, 7 and 9.

Babar Azam’s performance at the recently concluded Cricket World Cup earned him several accolades. It only took him eight innings to enter the record books by scoring most runs (474) by a Pakistani batsman in a World Cup.

His tenure of one ton and three half centuries at the World Cup not only asserted his authority in absolute fashion, but it also forced former Pakistan captain Javed Miandad to say that the 24-year-old is a worthy candidate to lead the team from front. Reacting to it though, the batsman has said that captaining his national side has never really crossed his mind, as his only focus is on his performance.

“It's up to the Pakistan Cricket Board to decide whoever captains the team and in whichever format,?the 24-year-old told The Cricket Paper.

“The Board will decide who the captain or captains are and the players of course abide by their choice. I've never really thought about captaining Pakistan and have in all honesty only thought about playing for my country.

“I am not someone who craves being captain and I’m more interested in scoring runs for Pakistan. Whoever the Board chooses is the right choice and in fact, I think Sarfaraz Ahmed is fine and is doing a good job at the moment.?/em>

Despite being level on points with the eventual finalists New Zealand, Pakistan’s elimination from the World Cup came on the back of an inferior run-rate. Speaking about it, the 24-year-old highlighted the fixtures which cost his team a place in the semi-final.

“Two matches really cost us and hit us hard. Firstly there was the heavy loss to West Indies which seriously damaged our Net Run-Rate. And then, the next setback was the defeat to Australia where we were on course to win, but quick wickets hit us hard and we ended up losing a match we should have won.?/em>

Speaking about the new world champions, England, Babar added that the key for the Three Lions was their opening pair of Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow. To add to it, Joe Root’s presence’s further controlled England’s batting order, and the rest of the job was undertaken by the bowlers.

“A team’s openers are crucial in any form of cricket and Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow most of the time gave England excellent starts at the World Cup.

“They were very consistent throughout the tournament and when a team’s openers give you a good start, then the rest of the batting order can work with that and feed off that good start. In England’s case, after the good starts by Roy and Bairstow, there was Joe Root who could come in and control the innings with the rest of the batting unit batting around him.

“When they had runs on the board their bowling attack, which I felt was the best in the tournament, did what was required of them. I know Jofra Archer received a lot of plaudits for his performances at the World Cup, but Chris Woakes was the bowler who I felt was crucial for them. He more often than not took key early wickets and put the opposition batsmen under pressure.?/em>

Meanwhile, comparisons with the Indian captain, Virat Kohli has always been in and around Azam’s career. But he says he is hardly fazed by it just because they are ‘different types of players?

“I don't think there is or should be any comparison as we are different types of players. I just focus on my batting and working on my strengths and weaknesses and have no desire to be compared with any other cricketer.

“I'm sure I speak for most cricketers when I say comparisons are only for fans and the media and we cricketers don't really crave any comparisons or want to be compared to any current or former players as that just creates endless pressure. As great as he is, I don't want to be compared to Virat or any other cricketer. I just want to win matches for my country as that is my only aim."

With the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup finally reaching its penultimate round, the semi-finals, fans have been at the receiving end of some extravagant moments over the month. Right from Mitchell Starc’s artistry with the ball to Rohit Sharma treating the spectators to mere perfection, this tournament has well and truly delivered what was promised.

In the midst, however, several disappointments have overshadowed the positives of the tournament. For the starters, the chagrin West Indies suffered after beating Pakistan in their opening fixture certainly wasn’t what the fans had hoped. Unvaryingly, many veterans have fallen flat as well. That being said, here is Stumped’s Worst XI from the league phase:

Note: At least one player has been picked from each country.

Openers: Chris Gayle (West Indies), Martin Guptill (New Zealand)

Arriving on the back of total domination of England bowlers during the latter’s tour of West Indies earlier this year, a lot was expected of the self-proclaimed ‘Universal Boss.?A career spanning 20 long years, however, ended in a total catastrophe. 242 runs in nine games (eight innings) at 30.25, which included just two half-centuries, summed the all-rounder’s final World Cup of his career. The southpaw was majorly inclined towards getting a loud cheer from the audience rather than actually speaking when it mattered the most.

Martin Guptill, on the other hand, was a mere disappointment as well. Apart from his unbeaten 73 off 51 deliveries in New Zealand’s tournament opener against Sri Lanka, the 32-year-old did nothing to give his side a worthy start ever since. A figure of 166 runs in eight innings sums up how his tournament became nothing but a damp squib.

Number 3: Hashim Amla (South Africa)

Even though he has wished to continue, there is absolutely no denying the fact that this was Hashim Amla’s final World Cup appearance. Thus, not just South Africa, but even the neutrals had hoped for a better tenure. As it turned out though, he returned with a figure of 203 runs in seven innings, registering just 16 fours in the midst, as South Africa once again failed to assert their authority in an ICC tournament.

Number 4: Kusal Mendis (Sri Lanka)

Arriving on the back of a decent blend of youth to that of experienced campaigners, Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis was expected to his lead his batting contingent, which was struggling for grip in the middle. Following a decent start ?37 against South Africa and 24 against Australia ?the 24-year-old failed to provide anything worthy. In seven innings he has played in the tournament, Mendis has scored mere 143 at a lowly 20.42. His 68-ball 46 is his only positive highlight of the tournament.

Number 5: MS Dhoni (India)

Former captain, MS Dhoni has been a subject of massive backlash from the fans, especially after his substandard performance at the World Cup. Sure he has been India’s only glaring light in their shaky middle order, but the 38-year-old hasn’t really lived up to the expectations, and the fact that he has scored mere 223 runs in seven innings, which includes a solidary half-century, is a perfect testament of it. And not to forget the countless dot balls. It has been said before, but maybe the time has come for him to hand the battalion to someone else.

Numbers 6: Glenn Maxwell (Australia)

Coming on the back of dismantling the Pakistan bowling attack just before the World Cup, Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell was supposed to back his team in case of top-order collapse. And although the Aussies hardly came at the receiving end of such misfortune, he failed bitterly whenever given the stage. After nine innings, the 30-year-old has scored just 155 runs at 22.14. Even with the ball, he has failed to scalp even a single wicket.

Number 7: Rashid Khan (Afghanistan)

Afghanistan’s very own, Rashid Khan has done little justice to live up the hype which surrounded him ahead of the World Cup. Following a decent return in the Indian T20 League, the 20-year-old was expected to set the tournament ablaze. He rather delivered a subpar performance with both bat and surprisingly with the ball. His only highlight, however unfortunate it is, remains conceding 110 in nine overs against England. He has travelled back home with just six wickets in eight innings, with a personal best tally of 2/17. Furthermore, his bowling average of 69.33 is worst amongst the bowlers who have picked at least five wickets in the tournament.

Number 8: Mashrafe Mortaza (Bangladesh)

While he was expected to lead a rejuvenated Bangladesh unit right from the front, captain Mashrafe Mortaza fell flat in his attempts to an extent that solidary wicket against England where he conceded 68 runs, in Cardiff, on June 8 remains his only high of the tournament.

Number 9: Adil Rashid (England)

Having entered the tournament as England’s front-line spinner with a hope of bamboozling his opponent, 31-year-old Adil Rashid has rather failed to deliver what was promised. A return of just eight wickets in nine games, and a bowling average of 54.12 particularly remains a below-par repay for a bowler of his standard.

Number 10: Hasan Ali (Pakistan)

Hasan Ali was decoded by England during the Pakistan series just before the World Cup. Yet playing him at such grand tournament was arguably the biggest risk the Men in Green took. And it took them four matches to figure out Ali wasn’t performing the way he was expected to. An average, economy and strike rate of 128.00, 7.75 and 99.0 respectively was registered by the bowler after scalping just two wickets in his kitty.

Number 11: Kagiso Rabada (South Africa)

Having picked 25 wickets in 12 Indian T20 League games just ahead of the World Cup, Rabada was expected to dazzle even the best batsmen in England. A truly disappointing tenure for South Africa, however, saw the 24-year-old falling from the grace to an extent that he only managed 11 wickets in eight innings, recording a personal best of 3/56 at an average and strike rate of 36.09 and 42.5 respectively.
