On the 3rd day of the first unofficial Test match between India A and the England Lions, both Shardul Thakur and Nitish Kumar Reddy delivered underwhelming performances. All-rounder Thakur bowled 21 overs, conceding 90 runs and securing just one wicket. On the other hand, Reddy delivered 11 overs without taking a wicket and gave away 57 runs.

Their bowling speeds averaged between 75 mph (120 km/h) to 78 mph (125 km/h). However, this isn’t enough to corner the opposing team’s batsmen, which includes Tom Haines and Max Holden.

The England Lions capitalised on India A’s bowling struggles. Thakur and Reddy, who were expected to lead the seam attack as pace-bowling all-rounders, lacked both consistency and penetration. Their lack of breakthroughs allowed the English batters to dominate.

Despite being an unofficial Test, the match served as a way to assess player performance. With the unsatisfactory play that the two players showed, they slimmed their chances of getting into India’s national Test team.

Indian all-rounder Shardul Thakur has signed a seven-game deal with Essex, an English cricket club, to make his County Championship debut in April. He expressed his excitement about joining the club and how this will allow him to showcase his skills on a different platform.

‘County cricket is something I always wanted to experience and I am glad that I’ll be representing the Eagles? Thakur shared. The Essex Director of Cricket, Chris Silverwood, also voiced the club’s enthusiasm for a new, high-quality bowler joining them.

The 33-year-old’s bold move was announced after his outstanding performance in the ongoing Ranji Trophy. He has scored 439 runs at 39.90 and claimed 34 wickets at 21.67 so far.

Thakur’s Indian cricket league journey

Thakur has made a name for himself in the Indian cricket league. Having played for multiple teams, including PBKS, RPS, DC, and CSK, Thakur steadily proved himself to be an all-rounder on the field.

The fast bowler’s Indian cricket league career highlights a handful of match-winning performances, including his wicket-claiming skills. He was particularly noted for his 2021 performance with CSK, claiming 21 wickets at an average of 25.09—conceding over 500 runs against KKR. This helped them secure the 2021 Indian cricket league’s title.

However, despite his past successful plays, Thakur was not bought by any team during the 2025 Indian cricket league auction. This news came as a massive shock, sparking discussions about his form and the dynamics of the Indian cricket league this year. Some experts believe that the rise of younger players might have played a role in his unsold status.

Thakur later expressed disappointment in not having any team professing faith in him and his decade-long skills. Still, he pointed out that every player faces highs and lows, but this will never change the quality of his game.

Thakur’s awaiting cricket future

With the 2025 season fast approaching, Thakur takes on this new challenge to prove himself. While his Indian cricket league career might be temporarily on hold, Essex could be the perfect opportunity for him to rediscover his form.

After the County Championship, the all-rounder is eyeing a spot in the Indian squad for their upcoming five-match Test series with England by June. He shared his intentions and determination to play a significant role in the series.

The English Test series is challenging for visiting teams due to the English clubs?superb pitches for seam and swing bowling. However, Thakur’s top-notch bowling style and batting skills are well-suited to these matches. His participation in the Test series might just be India’s chance to bring home victory.

After suffering a nine-run defeat in a rain-curtailed series opener, the Shikhar Dhawan-led Indian cricket team will look to bounce back when they take on South Africa in the second one-day international (ODI) of the three-match series at the JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi on Sunday, October 9. The match will start at 1:30 PM Indian Standard Time (IST).

IND vs SA Dream11 prediction for 2nd ODI 2022

Put into bat in a 40-over game, South Africa rode on unbeaten fifties from David Miller (75) and Heinrich Klaasen (74) to post a competitive total of 249/4. In reply, Sanju Samson's impressive half-century (86) went in vain as India fell short by nine runs.

Interestingly, the hosts are playing with a second-string side as Rohit Sharma-led India’s first-team squad has reached Australia ahead of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, which starts on October 16.

Furthermore, South Africa have a superior head-to-head record against India in the ODI format, winning 50 of the 88 matches that they have played so far. India have registered 35 victories while three matches have ended with no results.

Going by recent form and team combination, SA will start as slight favourites against IND going into the second ODI in Ranchi.

South Africa will also be desperate to continue their winning momentum in order to secure an automatic qualification spot in the Cricket World Cup Super League table and qualify for the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 in India.

Having registered five wins and seven defeats, South Africa are currently languishing 11th in the ICC Cricket World Cup Super League table with 59 points from 14 matches.

IND vs SA Dream11 team tips for 2nd ODI 2022

Top tip: Best batter

South Africa’s David Miller has been in scintillating form in the ongoing India vs South Africa white-ball series. After scoring 125 runs in the three T20Is, Miller continued his impressive form as he smashed 75 runs off just 63 balls in the first ODI in Lucknow. Miller, along with Heinrich Klaasen, stitched together a match-winning 139-run stand for the fifth wicket to power his side to 249/4. Miller has already accrued 96 points and will be a great pick at 7.5 credits.

Top tip: Best bowler

In the bowling department, South Africa’s Kagiso Rabada will be the bowler to watch out for. The 27-year-old fast bowler once again troubled the Indian batters in the opening ODI as he picked two wickets for just 36 runs in his eight overs. At 9 credits, Rabada will be a great investment as he will look to add to his fantasy tally of 80 points.

Top tip: Best all-rounder and wicket-keeper

As far as all-rounders are concerned, Shardul Thakur of India will be the preferred choice. Shardul Thakur made an impressive comeback from an injury in Lucknow as he picked two wickets and also scored a 31-ball 33 to make valuable contributions on both fronts. Shardul Thakur has accumulated 108 fantasy points and will be a smart pick at 8.5 credits.

For the wicket-keeper spot, India’s Sanju Samson will be the fantasy recommendation over Quinton de Kock of South Africa. Besides fulfilling his wicket-keeping responsibilities, Sanju Samson hammered 86 runs off just 63 balls and almost pulled off an incredible run-chase. At just 8 credits, the in-form India wicket-keeper batter could be a game-changer in the second ODI of the series.

IND vs SA 2nd ODI playing XI (probable)

India playing XI (probable): Shikhar Dhawan (captain), Shubman Gill, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer, Sanju Samson (wicket-keeper), Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Avesh Khan, Ravi Bishnoi, Mohammed Siraj

South Africa playing XI (probable): Jannemalan Malan, Quinton de Kock (wicket-keeper), Temba Bavuma (captain), Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen, David Miller, Wayne Parnell, Keshav Maharaj, Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi, Tabraiz Shamsi

After securing an impressive 1-0 win in the three-match unofficial Test series, India A will host New Zealand A in a three-match unofficial ODI series starting on Thursday, September 22.

India’s wicket-keeper batter Sanju Samson has been appointed the captain of the 16-man ODI squad. The Kerala-born cricketer earlier failed to make the cut for India’s senior squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 scheduled to be held in Australia in October-November.

India internationals Prithvi Shaw and Ruturaj Gaikwad are some of the big names included in the batting department. Meanwhile, Shardul Thakur, Umran Malik and Kuldeep Yadav are added to bolster the bowling attack.

India’s 2022 U-19 World Cup star Raj Angad Bawa has received his maiden India-A call-up following his impressive showing in the marquee youth tournament. Raj Angad Bawa amassed 252 runs and claimed nine wickets in five matches in the recent U-19 World Cup.

Meanwhile, New Zealand A will be led by Tom Bruce. The visitors will look to bounce back after suffering a 0-1 defeat in the three-match unofficial Test series against the Priyank Panchal-led hosts.

All eyes will once again be on New Zealand’s Joe Carter, who was the leading run-scorer in the unofficial Test series. Carter amassed 347 runs in three matches at an average of 69.40. New Zealand international Rachin Ravindra has been the wrecker-in-chief for the Kiwis, picking seven wickets in three matches.

The three-match unofficial ODI series will be played at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Former Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq leads the list for the fastest fifty in Test cricket, with his record 21-ball half-century against Australia in an Abu Dhabi Test in 2014.

Misbah, who played 75 Tests for the Pakistan cricket team, slammed four boundaries and four sixes as he reached the milestone in just 24 minutes, a record for the fastest fifty in Test cricket by minutes.

The middle-order batter would go on to score an unbeaten 101 in the Test and join a list of cricketers to score centuries in both innings of a Test match.

Australian opener David Warner is the second player to hit the fastest fifty in Test cricket. The southpaw took 23 balls to reach 50 in the third Test between Australia and Pakistan at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) in 2017.

Warner’s effort helped Australia to a confident start of 53/0 in 13 overs as he broke a 39-year-old national record previously set by Bruce Yardley against West Indies in 1978.

Since David Warner’s 23-ball fifty, Jacques Kallis (24 balls vs Zimbabwe, 2005), Shane Shillingford (25 balls vs New Zealand, 2014) and Shahid Afridi (26 balls vs India, 2005) have registered the fastest fifty in Test cricket among international cricketers.

Fastest 50 in Test: The top five list

Player Opponents Balls faced Year
Misbah-ul-Haq Australia 21 2014
David Warner Pakistan 23 2017
Jacques Kallis Zimbabwe 24 2005
Shane Shillingford New Zealand 25 2014
Shahid Afridi India 26 2005

Bangladesh’s Mohammad Ashraful (Bangladesh v India, 2007) and Dale Steyn (South Africa v West Indies, 2014) matched Afridi’s 26-ball feat of the fastest fifty in Test cricket.

Fastest 50 in Test for India: Rishabh Pant the new record holder

Rishabh Pant broke Kapil Dev's 40-year-old record for the fastest fifty in Test cricket by an Indian batter in a Pink-ball Test between India and Sri Lanka in 2022.

Pant slammed seven fours and two sixes to reach his fifty in just 28 deliveries in the second innings of the second Test at the M Chinnaswamy in Bengaluru. In doing so, the wicketkeeper-batter surpassed Kapil Dev’s effort of 30 balls against Pakistan in Karachi in 1982.

Rishabh Pant also broke MS Dhoni's record for the fastest fifty by a wicket-keeper batter in Test cricket. Pant’s 28-ball effort broke Dhoni’s record of 34 balls that the former shared with former Australia gloveman Ian Smith.

All-rounder Shardul Thakur initially came close to breaking Kapil Dev’s record when he hit a 31-ball fifty against England in an Oval Test in 2021.

Player Opponents Balls faced Year
Rishabh Pant Sri Lanka 28 2022
Kapil Dev Pakistan 30 1982

An eventful day 1 of the Indian T20 League 2022 mega auction saw all ten teams going big for their targets. Opening batter Shikhar Dhawan opened the proceedings, joining Team Punjab for INR 8.25 crore before Shreyas Iyer became the first player to breach the INR 10-crore mark.

Among the bowlers, a certain Deepak Chahar attracted the highest bid with a price of INR 14 crore while Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga was among the top all-rounder with an INR 10.75 crore bid.

The highlight of the day, however, was the intense bidding war for Ishan Kishan, who ended up as the most expensive buy of day 1.

On that note, let’s look at five players who attracted the highest bids on Day 1 of the Indian T20 League 2022 mega auction.

Ishan Kishan to Team Mumbai - INR 15.25 crore

Starting off with a base price of INR 2 crore, it took little to no time for suitors to breach the INR 8 crore mark for Ishan Kishan. By that time, it was evident that Mumbai wasn't going to go down that easily. Until 8 crore, Mumbai managed to ward off interest from Punjab before Gujarat entered the fray to take the bid above INR 10 crore.

By the 12 crore mark, Hyderabad decided to trouble the five-time Indian T20 League winners before Mumbai won the bid at INR 15.25 crore. This made Ishan Kishan the most expensive buy of Day 1 and also made him the second most expensive Indian player at the Indian T20 League auction after Yuvraj Singh's 16 crore.

Deepak Chahar to Team Chennai - INR 14 crore

What started off as rather unhurried bidding ended up with Deepak Chahar pocketing a whopping INR 14 crore from Team Chennai. Team Delhi and Team Hyderabad started the war from his base price of INR 2 crore. The two teams were matching every bid until INR 12 crore before Chennai made a late entry.

Rajasthan joined the defending champions at INR 13.75 crore but Chennai were always a step ahead. By the end, Chennai had their man, albeit at a price of INR 14 crore.

Shreyas Iyer to Team Kolkata - INR 12.25 crore

Former Delhi captain Shreyas Iyer was one of the winners from the marquee set of players, attracting a bid of INR 12.25 crore from Team Kolkata. Iyer was always tipped to attract big bids in the auction hence it does not really come as any surprise that a team went over the 12 crore mark for the batter.

The two-time Indian T20 League winners entered the bidding war after Team Delhi and Team Gujarat had stretched the bid to over INR 6 crore. Kolkata’s idea behind Iyer’s acquisition is a part of their ‘long term thinking?and the fact that they might as well make him the captain isn't really touched.

“That's a decision the coach and the think tank will take," Venky Mysore, Team Kolkata CEO, said on the official broadcast during a break in proceedings. "I think we need to just digest the activity of today and tomorrow and take stock. Between Cummins and Shreyas, we have got solid options. But the think tank will take the decision."

Shardul Thakur to Team Delhi - INR 10.75 crore

Another top pick among bowlers was Shardul Thakur. The pacer bowler won the bid of INR 10.75 crore as Delhi managed to ward off interest from Team Punjab and Team Gujarat.

The three teams were on the neck of each other from the very beginning. After Punjab and Gujarat had started off the proceedings, Chennai joined the foray at INR 6 crore. The Yellow Army, however, dropped off after the 10 crore mark, leaving Delhi and Punjab the only competitors.

Delhi eventually got his signature for INR 10.75 crore.

Harshal Patel to Team Bangalore - INR 10.75 crore

Last season’s highest wicket-taker, Harshal Patel was rightly expected to attract heavy interest and the suitor did not disappoint. Team Hyderabad seemed adamant about acquiring his services but Bangalore were always a step ahead.

The pace bowler, who went for a mere INR 20 lakh last season, got a 5375 per cent hike this year as Bangalore managed to retain his services at INR 10.75 crore. By that time, he was the first bowler to cross the 10 crore mark on day 1 of the Indian T20 League 2022 mega auction.

Quite interestingly, as many as four players went for exactly INR 10.75 crore. Apart from Shardul Thakur and Harshal Patel, the likes of Nicholas Pooran and Wanindu Hasaranga were snapped up at the same price by Hyderabad and Bangalore respectively.

The Indian cricket team fought back from a difficult position to pull off a stunning 157-run victory over England in the fourth Test at the Oval, and regained a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.

It was India’s ninth Test win in England and the first victory at the venue in 50 years.

India have now won multiple Tests in a series in England for the second time since 1986. By doing so, they also registered their third Test win after being dismissed for 200 or less runs in the first innings of an away Test.

The visitors were reduced to 69/4 by the 30th over of the first innings, but made a comeback of sorts thanks to skipper Virat Kohli (50 off 96 balls) and a record-breaking half-century from Shardul Thakur.

Shardul Thakur to India’s rescue in first innings

While wickets fell at regular intervals around him, Shardul, playing in his fourth Test, hit a quick-fire fifty off 31 balls to help India to 191 all out in the first innings. He became the quickest Test half-centurion for India in England and the second-fastest overall after Kapil Dev in 1982.

The 29-year-old bettered the record for fastest half-century in Test matches in England by breaking Ian Botham’s previously held record of a 32-ball fifty against New Zealand in 1986.

Furthermore, Shardul Thakur is just the fourth Indian batsman to score fifties in both innings of a Test while batting at positions between 8-11.

Rohit Sharma’s snaps away ton drought

India’s batting response in the second innings was an example of their never-say-die attitude, and a certain Rohit Sharma led from the front. The opener ended his drought of 47 Test innings for a maiden century away from home.

While his knock of 127 runs was his eighth Test ton of his career, Rohit Sharma has now hit five Test centuries since being promoted to the opening position in the red-ball cricket in 2019.

Rohit, who has now amassed 3000 runs in Tests, also registered the most three-digit scores across all formats in England, going past Rahul Dravid. Only legendary Australian batsman Don Bradman (11) has more hundreds among visiting batsmen in England than Rohit.

Apart from playing a splendid knock, Rohit Sharma found quality support in Cheteshwar Pujara as they stitched a 153-run stand for the second wicket. It was the joint-third best second-wicket stand for an Indian Test pairing in England.

Jasprit Bumrah cut through England

If the Indian batsmen set the ball rolling for a spectacular win at the Oval, the bowlers did their part by putting on strong finishing touches to the performance. Jasprit Bumrah, India’s leading pacer in recent years, became the quickest Indian fast bowler to 100 Test wickets.

Bumrah’s spell on the final day, in particular, will be remembered by many for years. As India looked to cut through England’s middle order, Bumrah answered the call in spectacular fashion.

He rattled the stumps with searing pace and a little bit of reverse as the likes of Jonny Bairstow and Ollie Pope were left searching for answers in front of the Indian pace ace.

Records tumbled when Sam Curran's gritty unbeaten 95 against India in the final ODI took England right on the cusp of a series win, but that just wasn't meant to be as T. Natarajan, the bowler given the onus to moderate the English onslaught, did his job in the final over as the visitors suffered a clean sweep at hands of India who, after winning the Test as well as the T20I series, clinched the ODI series too.

This was England's eighth tour of India since they last won an ODI series here and their record worsened on Sunday, March 28, as they have now lost six of them while drawing two. Their last ODI series win over India away from home came in December 1984. The three ODIs, played in Pune's Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, saw India surpassing their previous tally of five consecutive 300-plus scores in ODI. As things stand, their last night’s 329 was their sixth consecutive 300-plus total in the 50-over format.

Apart from that, the ODI series also saw as many as 70 sixes being hit by the two teams which is now the most number of maximums in any series of fewer than five games. There were several such records, and here we look at a few of them.

Sam Curran, the man of the hour

Cometh the hour, cometh the man. England were in a dire need of someone who can rejuvenate the sinking ship when they were reduced to 95/4 in 15 overs. As for India, it looked like a walk in the park as visitors kept on losing wickets, but Sam Curran went on to change the complexion. The 22-year-old scored an unbeaten 95, which is now the joint-highest score by a number 8 batsman.

Highest score by a #8 batsman in ODIs
Player Runs Strike Rate Opposition Venue
Chris Woakes (England) 95* 103.26 Sri Lanka Nottingham
Sam Curran (England) 95* 114.45 India Pune
Nathan Coulter-Nile (Australia) 92 153.33 West Indies Nottingham
Thomas Odoyo (Kenya) 84 86.59 Bangladesh Nairobi
Lance Klusener (South Africa) 83 107.79 Australia Johannesburg

Curran scored at a strike rate of 114.45 and this is the 7th highest strike rate in an ODI innings by a number 8 batsman to face a minimum of 60 balls. He hit nine fours and this is the joint-second most fours hit by a number 8 batsman against India. The all-rounder played two 50-plus runs partnerships for the 8th and the 9th wicket and this is the first time that this has happened in ODIs for England, and 7th overall.

Indian bowlers on different spectrum

Indian bowlers outrightly dominated their England counterparts as the top-three wicket-takers from the ODI series were all Indians. Shardul Thakur, from the lot, impressed the most with seven wickets which included one four-wicket haul in the final ODI. All of the top-three wicket-takers from the series were seamers. The three, put together, scalped an impressive 19 wickets, which is a stark contrast to what the spinners delivered.

Fewest wickets taken by Indian spinners in a series (min 39 overs)
Series Matches Overs Runs Wickets
IND vs ENG 2020/21 3 39 312 1
IND vs ENG 1992/93 6 105 503 5
IND vs SL 2006/07 4 64 323 5
IND vs WI 1983/84 5 44 201 6
IND vs SA 1991/92 3 56 275 6

India had two spinners in their ranks, Kuldeep Yadav and Krunal Pandya, and the two picked a solitary wicket between them. This is the fewest wickets taken by Indian spinners in a series with a minimum of 39 overs. The two spinners gave away a combined total of 312 runs in three games while going for an economy of 8.00 and a bowling strike-rate of 234.00. These are the worst figures for Indian spinners in a bilateral series at home.

As far as England are concerned, the final ODI had as many as seven different wicket-takers from England. Amongst the lot, a certain Mark Wood impressed the most with a figure of 3/34, which is his fifth-best bowling figures in ODIs, and the best against India. The instance of having seven different wicket-takers is only the fifth time that it has happened in an ODI match.

India completed a clean sweep over England after winning their 3rd and final ODI by seven runs. The game looked buried when the hosts had reduced Jos Buttler’s men to 4/95 in 15 overs, but little did they know what was to follow.

While England’s openers failed on the judgement day, Sam Curran gave India a scare by scoring an 83-ball 95, which is not only his personal best ODI score but is also the joint-highest score by a number 8 batsman and highest by a number 8 batsman against India. The all-rounder brought England right on the cusp of victory, but a few misses here and there resulted in England’s defeat.

India, who were put in to bat first for the third time in the ODI series, rode on the batting brilliance of Shikhar Dhawan, Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya, who all scored half-centuries to take India’s total to 329. England, on their part, started off really well, with Jason Roy scoring back-to-back boundaries off Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s over, but the seamer gave India a major breakthrough in the first over itself.

“It was tense, being a bowler you are always under pressure,?said Bhuvneshwar, who picked three for 42 in 10 overs, after the game.

“There was dew and some tension in the ground. I wasn't worried about the early boundaries. Inswing was the plan for me and that worked. Definitely, looking forward to the Indian T20 League. I'm just happy I went through this entire series.?/span>

England went on to lose wickets at will and never really looked close to achieving the target. All that, however, changed when Sam Curran got England close to victory. The England all-rounder was adjudged as the Man of the Match, but the Indian cricket team captain, Virat Kohli, believed there were other deserving candidates too; like Bhuvneshwar himself and Shardul Thakur, who earlier scored an important 21-ball 30 and picked four crucial wickets.

"Sam played well, but we kept taking wickets to put enough pressure on them," said Kohli during the post-match presentation. "The mindset shifted in the last couple of overs. Hardik (Pandya) and Nattu (T. Natarajan) were brilliant to finish it off."

"I'm surprised that he (Shardul) wasn't the Man of the Match. Four wickets and scoring 30 runs and Bhuvi another contender for Man of the Series. These guys were the difference in middle overs and powerplay. Prasidh and Krunal were impressive, but the most pleasing thing is the depth of our batting."

A batting collapse from 135/0 in 14 overs to 251 all-out was definitely not a performance England would want to look back, but the trend of their middle-order crumbling down has been identified from the T20I series itself.

England are known for their blistering headstarts and Tuesday was no different as Jason Roy and Jonny Bairstow had kicked-off like they were going to chase down the target themselves. But, it wasn’t meant to be. Call it India’s bowling brilliance or England’s inability to build on an already set momentum, the better team won at the end of the day.

I’ve always loved watching these kinds of games and I’m expecting more of the same when these two teams square off in the 2nd ODI at the same venue on March 26. Having said that, here I give you four names who I believe could muster a Man of the Match performance in the upcoming ODI.

Shikhar Dhawan

It never really looked like Shikhar Dhawan was playing his first ODI in almost four months. The southpaw shook off his rust to play a Man of the Match innings. As we approach the 2nd ODI, I reckon Dhawan will once again be the wrecker-in-chief for the hosts. The way he batted in the tricky conditions of Pune - I say tricky because the ball actually swung and seamed early on in the game - was a visual delight. One can very well argue about the dropped catches, but the opener made most of the opportunities presented to him.

Shardul Thakur

Pacer Shardul Thakur has developed a trend of picking important wickets at the crucial moments of the game. Just as we saw in the final T20I, where he dismissed both Dawid Malan and Bairstow in the same over, Thakur was at it once again on Tuesday as he scalped the wickets of Bairstow, Eoin Morgan and Jos Buttler in the span of just two overs. One cannot help but notice a pattern here. Thakur concedes more runs early in the game, but comes back well and becomes increasingly hard to play against later on. He may have not gotten the limelight he deserves, but the second ODI could present him with an opportunity to do so.

Jason Roy

It’s been eight months since Jason Roy last hit an ODI half-century. The last time he had scored a ton was against Australia in July 2019, and there was no stopping the England opener then as he had hit his fourth consecutive fifty-plus score. A dry run of form ever since was about to end in Pune on Tuesday when a poor shot culminated in an eventual England collapse. Roy has been prolific alongside Bairstow, with the duo averaging 60.45 and scoring 7.04 runs an over. This figure, right now, is the best amongst any other opening pair, which includes Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma. I believe it’s high time for Roy to get back to his best, and a decent score, by which I mean at least a half-century, would arguably work in his favour.

Ben Stokes

The quality that Ben Stokes brings to the table is next to none really. He may have struggled for runs in the 1st ODI, but he more than made up for that with his three-wicket haul, which had wickets of Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan and Hardik Pandya. These were three crucial wickets. While Dhawan was on course to his century, Pandya has been in prolific form in ODIs of late. Hence, it goes without saying that Stokes will once again remain a key component for England and the likely absence of Eoin Morgan and Sam Billings will require him to step up in the 2nd ODI.

I believe a Stokes masterclass is in the offering.
