At the top of Frank’s wishlist? Mathys Tel, who recently signed a permanent deal effective after his Spurs loan. Alongside him are Brentford names familiar to Frank: Bryan Mbeumo, Yoane Wissa, and Christian Nørgaard.

While these players bring energy and technical skill, none quite mirror Son’s experience, but still, Frank’s Brentford style didn’t rely on a single star. Instead, he favours shared play—perhaps a sign that Son’s exit could also be Spurs�?chance of structural shift.

Tottenham Hotspur could be preparing for big changes this summer. Star forward Son Heung-min has hinted at plans to leave the club, while they eye Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sané as a key replacement.

Son, who joined Spurs in 2015, is under contract until 2026. However, recent talks suggest he may exit if he doesn’t fit into the plans of the next head coach. 

The club parted ways with Ange Postecoglou on Friday, June 06, after guiding Spurs to their first trophy in 17 years with their Europa League title win. Spurs are now in talks with Brentford as they plan to name Thomas Frank as the new head coach.

Meanwhile, Saudi Pro League giant Al Hilal has approached the South Korean forward alongside other Premier League players to sign. With recent squad changes, the Spurs are keen to sell Son rather than lose him as a free agent by next year.

The Spurs are eyeing German winger Leroy Sané, who is a free agent now. He has emerged as the target among top clubs, including Chelsea and Arsenal. Former Spurs midfielder Jamie O’Hara backed the move, calling Sané the ideal fit to replace Son.

Should Son leave this summer, it will close a decade-long chapter in North London and open the door to a bold new attacking era.

After their Liverpool defeat, Manchester City regained ground as they defeated Tottenham Hotspurs with a score of 1-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Wednesday, February 26, 2025. 

As the 12th-minute approached, previously injured Erling Haaland dealt the decisive blow and scored a goal. Cheers from City fans overwhelmed the away stadium, and chants became more powerful as the game progressed. 

The goal made by Haaland became the winning point for Man City as Hotspurs failed to grab a point in any of their counterattacks for the rest of the game. 

With the match concluding in Man City’s win, chances of securing a spot in the top 4 of the Premier League are getting stronger. Football enthusiasts are dropping predictions left and right about the elite league’s top teams and Man City just became a strong choice to consider.

Match recap

In the earlier parts of the game, an attempt by Haaland was thwarted by the Tottenham Hotspurs goalkeeper, Guglielmo Vicario. Man City’s forward Jeremy Doku’s chance to score a point was also blocked by Vicario. 

Multiple attempts to score a point were made by Man City but the goalkeeper’s defence is as strong as ever. 

Doku tried two assists but to no avail. His attempt with Man City’s forward Savinho failed as the player missed the goal. On his second, he found Erling Haaland, another forward, in a great position but as Haaland attempted a goal, Vicario once again did a vital close-range save. 

Spurs tried to get back on its feet and made several attempts to score but failed to find one in the first half.

In the second half of the game, Spurs managed to create a chance for a goal as Spurs�?defender Pedro Porro kicked a cross and attempted an assist with Spurs�?forward Wilson Odobert who sent the shot wide. Once again, they failed to secure a point. 

As the game was nearing completion, Spurs finally gave in and attacked with aggression—which put Man City under a lot of pressure. Spurs�?forwards Mathys Tel and Brennan Johnson saw opportunities to goal but both attempts failed. 

These efforts had Man City tightening their defences as well as trying to go on another offensive. 

When Man City was under enough pressure, Spurs substituted one of their top players, Son Heung-min. But despite efforts, he also failed to score and turn the tides of the game. 

During the stoppage time, Haaland believed he scored another point for Man City, but a VAR’s decision deemed the goal invalid, leaving Man City with just 1 secured point. 

The final moments of the game were some of the most intense as Man City desperately tried to defend their sole score while Spurs midfielder Pape Matar Sarr grabbed a good chance to goal in the centre. Though an attempt was made, he did not score a point. 

End of a winning streak

This defeat ended Tottenham Hotspur’s three-match winning streak against Brentford FC, Manchester United, and Ipswich Town. This defeat led to Hotspurs dropping to rank 13 in the English Premier League table. 

The team’s fans still believe that they will have other redeeming games and at least reach the top 10. Despite the defeat, Spurs supporters still have high hopes for the team.
