The final day of the Virtual Cricket Tournament 2020 saw the last of the matches being played before the knockouts got underway. There were some memorable performances in the simulated reality league cricket tournament, and we look at what transpired throughout the day and bring you the summary of each game.

AUS v SA, Match 13: AUS won by nine wickets

With AUS opting to field after winning the toss, SA were put to bat first. Openers Quincy de Kock and Hanif Amla fronted an unbeaten 49-run partnership which included eight boundaries and a sixer, the latter coming off the bat of Amla.

Although it was a decent score, AUS made an absolute mockery of it, chasing it down in just 3.2 overs. Daniel Warner and Armand Finch racked up nearly half the target score during a 28-run partnership in the first two overs, before Warner’s dismissal by Kagiso Radaba. However, Sam Smith kept the ship steady, continuing the flow of runs alongside Finch to assure AUS of a breezy victory in the virtual cricket match.

ENG v NZ, Match 14: ENG won by one run

ENG won the toss and went to bat first and we saw a well-rounded performance from their top order, with James Butler, Jackson Bairstow and Ian Morgan each scoring at least 20 runs to see the score at 63/2 to end their innings of the virtual match.

However, NZ were well on course to see off ENG’s challenge. Anchored by a 33-run knock by Callum Munro, they came agonisingly close to the winning target, falling short by just two runs.

IND v PAK, Match 15: IND won by eight wickets

The final virtual cricket match of the day, before the knockouts got underway, was between fiery rivals IND and PAK, and it was a close one.

IND managed to restrict PAK to 51/3 after the latter opted to bat first following the coin-toss. Once they stepped out on the field to bat, it was a determined Rohan Sharma, known for his big hits in e-cricket, who led the charge for IND. With five boundaries, Sharma anchored his side’s innings with a 14-ball 25, and supported by double-digit hauls by Shikhar Dhaven and Viraj Kohli, IND snared up the win with a ball to spare.

On the final day of the Virtual Cricket Tournament 2020, ENG, NZ, AUS and IND were the teams left to duke it out in the knockouts. There were some memorable performances in the simulated reality league cricket tournament, and we look at what transpired throughout the day and bring you the summary of each game.

ENG v NZ, first semi-final: ENG won by seven runs

Just like in Match 14 earlier in the day, ENG once again opted to bat first after winning the toss and just like in that virtual cricket match, the top order comprising James Butler, Jackson Bairstow and Ian Morgan each made healthy double-digit contributions toward a 58/1 tally.

NZ had a rocky start by comparison, with Markus Guptill falling to Jofra Archibald in the first over. While Ken Williamson came in and got a decent partnership going with Callum Munro, there were a few too many dot balls and singles for them to make any real dent in the target set by ENG, who went through to the final.

AUS v IND, second semi-final: IND won by 15 runs

Unlike ENG, AUS chose to field after winning the toss. IND openers Rohan Sharma and Shikhar Dhaven took full advantage of this. Dhaven, in particular, went berserk, scoring five boundaries and a sixer en route to an 11-ball 30.

With a 62-run target set for them, AUS skipper Armand Finch put up an admirable 14-ball 31 but fellow opener Daniel Werner played far too conservatively, fetching just 15 runs off 16-balls. With this imbalance in strike-rates between the two men, their 46-run stand fell a long way off the mark, allowing IND to slot into the final.

ENG v IND, final: IND won by 20 runs

IND opted to bat first, and while Rohan Sharma, usually dependable for big scores in such crucial e-cricket matches, failed to replicate his heroics from earlier in the day and was out for a single, Shikhar Dhaven continued where he had left off in the semi-final, with yet another stellar knock. Batting at No. 2, Dhaven whacked off an incredible ten boundaries along with a trio of sixes, with his 21-ball 59 contributing the lion’s share of IND’s 67/3 haul.

ENG’s well-oiled machinery which had been humming along until this point seemed to have run out of lubrication in the final of this virtual cricket tournament. With James Butler an early casualty, it set the tone for the rest of ENG’s innings, as they struggled to put runs on the board. With their final score standing at 47/3, a whopping 21 off the target, it was IND who hoisted the Virtual Cricket Tournament 2020 trophy.

The second day of the Virtual Cricket Tournament 2020 saw six matches being played on Wednesday, June 3. There were some memorable performances in the simulated reality league cricket tournament, and here, we look at what transpired throughout the day and bring you the summary of each game.

AUS vs NZ, Match 7: NZ won by 9 wickets

The opening game of the second day was an absolute run-fest, with both AUS and NZ scoring 147 runs between them in just 9.3 overs.

Having won the toss and elected to bat, table-toppers AUS rode on the back of Daniel Warner and Armand Finch’s partnership to put 73/1 on board after five overs. The target initially looked out of sort, but both Callum Munro and Markus Guptill gave NZ a blistering start, putting up a 42-run stand inside three overs. With two overs left and more than 30 runs to win, captain Ken Williamson smashed 21 in just seven deliveries to guide NZ to glory.

ENG vs PAK, Match 8: ENG won by 11 runs

The spectators bore witness to another high-scoring encounter as ENG locked horns with PAK in the second match of the day.

Winning the toss turned out to be a decisive decision as ENGs James Butler went on to smash 54 off just 19 balls. His knock included seven fours and four sixes as ENG registered 76/2 in five overs.

PAK had a relatively slow start as they lost Baba Azem to Jofra Archibald in the first over itself. A late blitz by Shoaeb Malek and Sarfaraz Ahmad did steady their ship, but they eventually fell 11 runs short as they finished their innings at 65/2.

IND vs SA, Match 9: SA won by 17 runs

In an another hard-hitting encounter, SA ?who were put to bat by IND ?scored 75/1 in five overs, riding on the back of Hanif Amla’s 15-ball 45 and Fabian du Plessis?late contribution of 13 runs in eight deliveries.

In turn, IND were restricted to 58/2 by a bowling brilliance of Irfan Taher, who dismissed both Rohan Sharma and Shikhar Dhaven in the very first over. Captain Viraj Kohli went on to score 36 in 16 balls, but that was just too little too late for his team.

AUS vs PAK, Match 10: AUS won by 9 wickets

In what was the day’s lowest-scoring encounter, AUS registered an easy nine-wicket win over PAK.

AUS, who elected to field, restricted their opponent to just 48/2 in five overs, with captain Sarfaraz Ahmad scoring the most for his team (22 off 10 balls). In turn, both Warner (13 off 10) and Finch (26 off eight) gave AUS a brilliant kickstart with the bat, as AUS reached their target within 3.3 overs.

SA vs NZ, Match 11: NZ won by 14 runs

For the second time in a day, NZ crossed the 70-run mark, having posted 72/1 in five overs after they were put in to bat by SA in match 11 of the simulated reality league cricket tournament. Both Munro and Guptill seemed unstoppable as the pair played an impeccable 53-run stand in just 3.3 overs before Williamson played his part in the hammering.

SA, on the other hand, lost Hanif Amla in only the second over. Quincy de Kock (33 off 21) and Fabian du Plessis (19 off six) did try their best, but the likes of Ted Southee, Michael Sentner and Lance Ferguson managed to keep them at bay, restricting them to 58/1 in five overs.

IND vs ENG, Match 12: ENG won by six wickets

Having elected to bat this time around, no one apart from Shikhar Dhaven (14 off seven balls) and KL Rajul (45 off 13 balls) even managed more than one run as IND finished their innings at 66/5, with Adil Rashed and Moin Alee both picking two wickets apiece.

Viraj Kohli’s men failed to assert any kind of authority even with the ball as ENG managed a narrow victory with only one ball to go.

The opening day of the Virtual Cricket Tournament 2020 saw six matches being played on Tuesday, June 2. There were some memorable performances in the simulated reality league cricket tournament, and here, we look at what transpired through the day and bring you the summary of each game.

AUS v ENG, Match 1: AUS won by eight runs

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, AUS opener Daniel Warner anchored the innings with a 12-ball 32 peppered with seven boundaries. With healthy supporting performances from Sam Smith, Glen Maxwall and Pat Handscomb, AUS were able to set a target of 61 for ENG.

ENG got off to a promising start in the virtual match, with a robust 41-run partnership between openers James Butler and Jackson Bairstow. However, ENG started to lose momentum in the third over and wickets in the fourth, ultimately sputtering to the finish nine runs short of the target.

IND v NZ, Match 2: IND won by seven wickets

Contrary to AUS earlier in the day, IND chose to field after winning the toss and it paid off for them, narrowly. NZ put up a healthy score of 51/2, with solid double-digit stints between Callum Munro, Ken Williamson and Ross Tailor.

IND, however, were just that little bit better across the board. With Shikhar Dhaven rolling with the big shots early on, it was skipper Viraj Kohli who bought just enough insurance for his side with a couple of boundaries in the penultimate over to allow IND to safely creep to 53 runs and win the virtual cricket match with seven wickets to spare.

PAK v SA, Match 3: PAK won by four runs

PAK stepped out to bat after SA opted to field and they wasted no time in getting going. Openers Baba Azem and Fakhar Zakir racked up the early numbers on the scoreboard, with five boundaries between them. Shoaeb Malek and Sarfaraz Ahmad picked up where they left off to set a 53-run target for SA.

Much to SA’s dismay, they found PAK’s bowlers to be just as in-form as their batsmen, and their wickets fell with rapid succession, with Iman Wasem alone taking three scalps. Regardless, Quincy de Kock and Fabian du Plessis?heroics with the bat almost saw them home, falling short by five runs.

AUS v IND, Match 4: AUS won by 10 wickets

AUS let IND bat first, and the latter were but a shadow of their former self when they had beaten NZ earlier in the day. The opening ball that dismissed Rohan Sharma for a duck caused the crack that initiated the collapse of IND’s batting order. Bowler Bhuvan Kumar was the only one to put up a double-digit score during the innings that saw IND finish with a paltry 31/7.

AUS breezed to the easy target set before them, with openers Daniel Warner and Armand Finch doing the honours and winning by a whopping 10 wickets.

ENG v SA, Match 5: ENG won by seven wickets

Put to bat first, SA got off to a positive start, with Quincy de Kock opening the innings with a couple of boundaries. However, the scoring soon slowed to a crawl, with either singles or dots trickling in.

Although de Kock managed two more boundaries near the tail end of the innings, the rest of the squad could not step up, leaving ENG with a relatively easy target of 39 for the win, which they comfortably managed with an over to spare.

PAK v NZ, Match 6: NZ won by 10 runs

While Callum Munro got out for a duck on the first ball of the innings, Markus Guptill and skipper Ken Williamson took charge. NZ were hungry to make up for their loss to IND earlier in the day, and it showed in the performance of these two men, whose 53-run stand helped set an ambitious target of 60 for PAK.

That turned out to be a bridge too far for PAK, despite openers Baba Azem and Fakhar Zakir putting together an admirable 49-run unbeaten stand, with Azem managing five boundaries.
