The T20 Blast 2023 is well and truly underway and plenty of bowlers are making their mark by standing up and being counted through outstanding displays.

Organised by the England and Wales Cricket Board, the Vitality T20 Blast - England’s premier domestic 20-over competition - is the oldest national Twenty20 tournament in the world.

While batters have been making merry, bowlers aren’t exactly standing by and letting the batsman have it all their way.

Quite a few bowlers have already picked up four-wicket hauls and Durham’s Nathan Sowter even claimed five wickets in a crushing win against Northampton.

Somerset all-rounder Ben Green has started the season well and is one of the leading contenders to finish as the top wicket-taker in Vitality T20 Blast 2023.

Worcestershire’s Pat Brown and Brett D’Oliveira have also started the season well with both of them claiming four-wicket hauls, and they are likely to be in contention for the highest wicket-taker come the end of T20 Blast 2023.

Essex duo Daniel Sams and Simon Harmer are a couple more leading contenders to finish as the top wicket-taker after a strong start to the season.

Meanwhile, Surrey’s Sunil Narine is one of the spinners who has made his presence felt in the early stages of the season.

The T20 Blast 2023 is up and running with some top-quality batters already showing their class. 

They began the tournament in good form and will have hoped to have set the tone for their respective teams over the course of the rest of the tournament.

After the first few games of the tournament, several players have already scored fifties and some players even have more than one half-century to their name despite the tournament still being in its early stages.

A couple of batters, namely Australian all-rounder Sean Abbot and England batter Graham Clark have even gone on to score centuries.

Interestingly, both these players scored their respective hundreds on the same day - Friday, May 26.

Surrey’s Sean Abbot made an unbeaten 41-ball 110 against Kent to help his side post 223/5 in a South Group encounter. 

His Player of the Match knock, which included four fours and a whopping 11 sixes helped Surrey to a 41-run victory.

Graham Clark’s hundred also came in a winning cause as the Durham opener made 102 off just 49 balls.

Clark’s innings, which featured 13 fours and four sixes, gave Durham a convincing 10-wicket win over Northamptonshire as the 138-run target was chased down by the openers themselves in no time. 

Meanwhile, the top-scorer from last season’s T20 Blast James Vince scored an unbeaten 55-ball 88 to help Hampshire chase down a 172-run target against Middlesex in what was their second outing of the 2023 season.

Along with Vince, a few other familiar names like Alex Hales, Dawid Malan, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, and Wayne Madsen have also made a good start to the tournament with the willow.

Wayne Madsen, in fact, scored half-centuries for Derbyshire in each of his first three outings in Vitality T20 Bleast 2023.

The Vitality T20 Blast 2023 is all set to get underway from Saturday, May 20 with a double-header that pits Birmingham Bears against Yorkshire Vikings and Derbyshire Falcons against Lancashire Lightning.

Organised by the England and Wales Cricket Board, the Vitality T20 Blast - the premier domestic Twenty20 tournament in England - is the oldest national competition on the globe.

A total of 18 county-based teams will be a part of the upcoming season of the competition and these sides have been split into two groups of nine teams each.

The North Group features teams like Birmingham Bears, Derbyshire Falcons, Durham, Lancashire Lightning, Leicestershire Foxes, Northants Steelbacks, Notts Outlaws, Worcestershire Rapids, and Yorkshire Vikings.

The South Group, on the other hand, comprises Essex Eagles, Glamorgan, Gloucestershire, Hampshire Hawks, Kent Spitfires, Middlesex, Somerset, Surrey, and Sussex Sharks.

The nine county-based teams from both groups will play 14 games - seven at home and seven away - from May 20 to July 2.

At the end of the group stage, the top two teams from both groups will compete in the semi-finals for a spot in the final. Both semi-finals and the final are slated to take place on July 15.

The upcoming season of T20 Blast is the 21st edition of the tournament. Hampshire Hawks is the defending champion as well as the most successful team in the tournament with three titles alongside Leicestershire Lightning, who also won the title thrice.

A total of 133 matches will be played over the course of the tournament, including the semi-finals and final.

The T20 Blast 2022 final will be played at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Saturday, July 16. 

Yorkshire, Lancashire, Hampshire and Somerset are the four teams that have qualified for the T20 Blast 2022 semi-finals.

Yorkshire will square off against Lancashire in the first semi-final on Saturday while Hampshire will lock horns with Somerset in the other semi-final on the same day.

Led by David Willey, Yorkshire beat Surrey by just one run in their quarter-final clash while Dane Vilas�?Lancashire defeated Essex by seven wickets in their last eight encounter.

On the other hand, James Vince-led Hampshire thrashed Warwickshire by 104 runs in the second quarter-final while Tom Abell’s Somerset hammered Derbyshire by 191 runs in the fourth and final quarter-final encounter of the ongoing T20 tournament.

Earlier, Warwickshire topped North Group standings with 18 points from 14 matches while Lancashire finished third with the same number of points but had a lower net run-rate.

Meanwhile, Somerset finished second in the South Group standings with 20 points from 14 matches while Hampshire squeezed into the playoffs after finishing fourth with 18 points from 14 matches.

Interestingly, Hampshire are two-time T20 Blast champions, having clinched the title in 2010 and 2012. Somerset won the coveted title in 2005 while Lancashire also tasted success by lifting the trophy in 2015.

Among the T20 Blast 2022 semi-finalists, Yorkshire are yet to win the title with their best result coming in 2012, where they finished as runners-up.

Defending champions Kent endured a torrid campaign this season as they finished at the bottom of the South Group standings with just three wins from 14 matches.

Leicestershire are the most successful team in the T20 Blast history, having won the title three times in 2004, 2006 and 2011.
