Ireland is close to winning the one-off Test against Zimbabwe. They need only three more wickets on the final day. Zimbabwe, led by Wessly Madhevere’s unbeaten 61, still needs 109 runs to win. Rain delays have already affected play and could impact the final result.

Ireland struck early, removing nightwatchman Trevor Gwandu in the first over of the day. Madhevere and Brian Bennett tried to fight back, hitting a few boundaries. However, rain stopped play for several hours, delaying lunch and tea breaks.

Humphreys takes key wickets

After a long rain delay, play continued with Madhevere and Bennett batting well. However, Matthew Humphreys broke their partnership by dismissing Bennett. This put Zimbabwe in trouble.

Madhevere then found a new partner in Jonathan Campbell. Together, they added 56 runs, giving Zimbabwe some hope.

Before the day ended, Humphreys took another wicket, pushing Ireland closer to victory. Now, Zimbabwe needs rain to delay the match.

Match scores

Zimbabwe scored 267 runs in their first innings but struggled in the second, reaching 183/7. Wessly Madhevere stayed unbeaten with 61 runs, while Brian Bennett added 45.

Ireland made 260 runs in their first innings and improved in the second with 298. They now need just three more wickets to win the match.

The County Ground, Bristol is a picturesque cricket venue located in Bristol, England.

Formerly known as Ashley Down Ground, the County Ground, Bristol was bought by WG Grace in 1889 and has been home to Gloucestershire ever since.

The County Ground, Bristol was later sold to local confectionery firm J. S. Fry & Sons and renamed Fry's Ground. The county bought the ground back in 1933 and it reverted to its original name.

In 1976, the ground was once again sold to Royal & Sun Alliance, who renamed the ground the Phoenix County Ground for eight years before changing to The Royal & Sun Alliance County Ground until the ground was again bought by the club and renamed to its current title.

The County Ground, Bristol staged its first international cricket match, a One-Day International (ODI) played between New Zealand and Sri Lanka during the Prudential World Cup in June 1983. Under the leadership of Geoff Howarth, New Zealand won the ODI by five wickets. Since then, it has hosted 20 ODIs so far.

The Ireland cricket team is gearing up to host Zimbabwe for a one-off Test match, which is slated to take place from Thursday, July 25 to Monday, July 29.

According to the schedule for the Ireland vs Zimbabwe One-off Test 2024, the match is set to be held at the Civil Service Cricket Club in Stormont, Belfast, with a starting time of 3:30 PM IST. Fans in India can catch all the action via live streaming.

This match will be historic as it is the first-ever Test hosted in Northern Ireland and it is also significant for Zimbabwe as they have never faced Ireland in a Test match before.

Ireland, granted Test status by the International Cricket Council (ICC) in 2018, became the 11th team eligible to play the longest format of the game.

Since gaining Test status, Ireland have played 8 Test matches, winning 1 and losing 7.

In contrast, Zimbabwe has a much longer history in Test cricket, having been granted Test status in 1992 to become the ninth team to play red-ball cricket.

Over the years, Zimbabwe have played 117 Test matches, recording 13 wins, 75 losses, and 29 draws.

Ireland vs Zimbabwe Test Head-to-Head

This will be the first Test match between Ireland and Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe's extensive experience in red-ball cricket, with 117 matches over 32 years, contrasts sharply with Ireland's relatively recent entry into the format, having played just 8 matches over six years..

Zimbabwe are currently ranked 10th in the ICC Test team rankings, while Ireland are a spot below them in 11th.
